W elcome to Dutch fabric
You have come to the right address for reproduction antique chintzes for patchwork en home furnishings.

This site presents cotton chintzes, a quilting fabric based on antique Dutch manuscripts that we have designed and printed in The Netherlands.

Most of these documents were brought to Holland during the 17th century by the merchants of the Dutch East India Company trading on India's Coromandel coast. The designs were widely copied in The Netherlands and France during the 18th century.

The original handpainted designs from India were initially used for interior decoration as well as in Dutch national costumes. During the 18th century, when printing mills began commercially producing these flowered patterns, the cotton chinz was mainly used for clothing but sometimes, even then, for patchwork and as quilting fabric. (see 'Quilts, a Dutch tradition' by An Moonen)

Today Betina BV printing reproduces a number of those flowered patterns, antique reproduction most suitable for patchwork in a range of different colours.

Since 1974 Rudolf den Haan designs his own collection of chintzes and tries to add each year some new patterns to match the existing collection.

Together they make up a rather exclusive and unusual collection of antique reproductions.

The quality of our cotton chintz is excellent and is especially attractive as quilting fabric because of the 150 cm/60 inch width. It is finished with a slight glaze just like in the old days! We have chosen to print with pigment to prevent fading. In fact, due to our method of finishing, it is not even necessary to pre-wash our products.
